Duden Waterfalls is 8 km away from Antalya city centre. The word “düden” is the Turkish word given to the holes that swallow the water. The water of the Duden waterfalls, after exiting the source, gradually disappears under the ground and reappears several times. The main source of the Duden waterfall is the Kırkgöz and Pınarbaşı, which are on the slopes of the Taurus Mountains, and after the merger, the river, which is lost in the so-called “Bıyıklı Duden”, enters the ground about 14 km below the ground and emerges again from Varsak, Antalya. After a short time, the water that descends to the ground about 2 km from Varsak will reappear at Dudenbaşı (upper Duden waterfall).
The Duden waterfalls in Lara district are actually called ” Karpuzkaldıran (watermelon lifting water)” among the public.
