The Karain cave, which dates back about 500 thousand years ago, is a place that has an important contribution to the established layout of mankind. Karain Cave, which was first found in 1946, still has interest in excavations and various researches. As one of the largest and most popular historical caves in Turkey, it has a separate place for tourists in Antalya. Karain Cave, which is also used as a place of sacrifice and shrine, attracts attention with religious figures found on its walls. Karain Cave, located at a height of about 400 meters from the sea level; There are certain evidences that humans, animals such as elephants, hippos and rhinoceros have lived.
There are many layers in the cave of Karain, while the caves that existed in the old years represent only one layer. In addition to the removal of settlements from the Karain Cave, the capture of the findings on art also gives enlightening ideas about the Anatolian arts. The most common traces of people in the classical period were found in the studies. But in the Palaeolithic, Neololytic, Chalcolithic and Protohistoric ages, there is evidence that people lived in the Karain cave. Karain Cave, which is naturally formed within the limestone, is one of the most important values of Antalya in the tourist point of view. The structure consisted of the merger of three rock-hollow, and the findings that were settled here in all ages were obtained. Some pictures seen on the walls of the cave give ideas about the periods experienced. As one of the natural historical structures, Karain Cave intervened with archaeological excavations for research. At this point, it consists of three main spaces and appears to be all connected to each other. While the entire Karain cave is not yet explored, but the past findings continue to be presented to visitors in the museums in Antalya.
To reach the Karain cave, you have to walk on foot from the wooden staircase, which is 70 meters long. Especially if you are going to visit during the summer months you should wear a hat to protect from the sun and few bottles of water for dehydration. Karain Cave entrance fee is only 5 TL.
