Termessos is undoubtedly one of the most interesting ruins in the Antalya region. It reflects the great harmony of history and nature even nowadays. Termessos has a different and impressive vibe than other ancient cities with its peaceful and untouched appearance. Due to its natural and historical riches, the city was covered by the national Park named after it.  Located in the ancient Pisidia region, the city was built 1,050 meters high in the Taurus Mountain. The city was founded by Solym, a descendant of Luvi, one of the oldest peoples of Anatolia. Alexander the Great, in 333 BC, tried to surround the city but failed to conquer Termessos and called as an Eagle’s Nest.

Since Termessos is founded on the summit of the Taurus Mountains, it is really troublesome to visit this place but can’t stop wondering about this city. When you enter Termessos, the first building that stands out is the Gymnasium. In the continuation of the Gymnasium, the Hamam building faces the places where statues are found to honour noble families. The road continues to be seen in Colony Street. What they call a colony street is actually one of the important elements of the Roman city planning.  The most interesting structures of Termossos are the theatre, cisterns and Wells. The theatre is the top of the city. It is one of the rare structures that have survived until today. The most interesting part of this theatre, woven with cut stones, is that it has been made to the edge of the cliff. There are six different sizes Temple in Termessos. Four of them are thought to be sacred area, next to the Odeon. The first one belongs to Zeus Solymeus. Other temples were dedicated to the God and Goddess in the thought that it is not possible to see much of the remains today.

One of the interesting side of the ancient City of Termessos is Necropolis. Basically it is a royal cemetery. Upon the mountains a lot of fountains sarcophagus graves can be seen. Some fountain sarcophagus tombs, carved naturally rocks on them directly. Some rocks in the sarcophagus of expertly processed independently with a slash through it. You can see a different fountain sarcophagus tombs of other graves. On top of a pedestal higher than others and flashy. These tomb belonged to a hero who lived in the city. Karain Cave is just 10 kilometres from the ancient city of Termessos. You can visit the magnificent Karain Cave while you are here.
